The July 1 killing of a Cecil, a 13-year-old black-maned lion that held iconic stature in the wilderness preserve, sparked outrage as details began to leak about his death and how the lion was killed.

Entertainment will release a new “Tarzan” movie with Alexander Skarsgard and Samuel L. Jackson. An animated series “Tarzan and Jane” will begin streaming on Netflix in fall of 2016, and there are plans for reprinting comic strips of Tarzan and launching a John Carter role-playing game.

Poaching for rhinos has become so rampant and the prospect of the species going extinct has become so real that scientists have developed an extreme measure to fight back: a hidden camera inserted into the horns of the rhinos.
The aim is for the hidden camera to provide evidence to convict poachers and act as a deterrent to poaching.

NASA’s New Horizons probe flew by Pluto this morning (July 14), capturing history’s first up-close looks at the far-flung world — if all went according to plan. (Mission team members won’t declare success until they hear from New Horizons tonight.) Closest approach came at 7:49 a.m. EDT (1149 GMT), when the spacecraft whizzed within 7,800 miles (12,500 kilometers) of Pluto’s frigid surface. To celebrate, NASA unveiled the latest photo of Pluto, showing a reddish world with a stunning heart-shaped feature on its face.

Sad news for our Monkey friends today, as reported by Yahoo:
Monkey Island (Liberia) (AFP) – A speedboat laden with fruit approaches and four chimpanzees come bounding over from the dense forest, screeching excitedly as volunteers throw them pineapple and mango chunks.
The apes are part of a colony of former research lab captives enjoying retirement uncaged on an atoll deep in the jungle of southern Liberia, known as Monkey Island.

Kigali (AFP) – Lions will return to Rwanda for the first time in more than two decades, wildlife officials have said, after the endangered animal was wiped out following the country’s 1994 genocide.
Seven lions — two males and five females — are being transported from South Africa and will arrive by air in Rwanda on Monday after a 36 hour journey, where they will be taken and released after at least two weeks quarantine into the eastern Akagera National Park.
