Cuteness alert: White lion cubs look more like little puppies than big cats

These photos might cause a double-take. Look closely: These white balls of fur aren’t puppies, or lambs, they’re lion cubs. And they’re adorable. The rare white color is due to a recessive gene. Seven of the cubs were born in captivity to three South African mama lions since last month. The baby white lions are being introduced by the zookeepers at Himeji Central Park in Japan later this week.

White Lion Cubs

There are only about 300 white lions left around the globe, according to the Daily Mail. The white lion—classified the same as its tan-colored counterpart—comes only from the Greater Timbavati region of South Africa, where they are considered a sacred species, according to the Global White Lion Protection Trust.

Nine-day-old lioness cubs are held by zoo keepers at Himeji Central Park on July 9, 2013 in Himeji, Japan. The seven white lioness cubs, given birth by three female South African Lions were born on June 6th, 26th and 30th. The cubs will be on public display for the first time later this week. New Comic Strip Launch – The War Chief

THE WAR CHIEF is a realistic historical novel about life and death on an Apache reservation during the final days of the Apache Wars. Decades before the movie Dances With Wolves, Edgar Rice Burroughs’ great respect for the West and his compassion for the exploitative treatment of the Native Americans at the hands of the pin-dah-lickoyee (white eyes) caused him to write a story that is an honest and sympathetic portrait of native life that does credit to both the Natives and Edgar Rice Burroughs.

The story revolves around Shoz-Dijiji a.k.a. Black Bear, son of Geronimo and once known as Andy MacDuff. Adopted by Geronimo as a baby, Shoz-Dijiji is Apache in everything but blood. His life gets complicated when he is influenced by his attraction to Wichita Billings, the daughter of a wealthy white rancher.

How Jane, the woman who loved Tarzan, was conceived

Robin Maxwell

Review by Margaret Leubs for the Newsletter Purple Sage of the Eash Sierra Branch, California Writers Club

Robin Maxwell introduced herself to the Ridge Writers by explaining that she too was a desert denizen, as she and her husband run a bed and breakfast near Yucca Valley.

She then told us how she came to be interested in both Tarzan and Jane. Tarzan was her first heartthrob, a gorgeously muscled he-man, living free. The romantic in her loved that he loved an American girl.

She also enjoyed other comics, such as Superman, but no super-hero could hold a candle to Tarzan. She never actually read Edgar Rice Burroughs’ novels, but she did love the movies based on them.
