The Mars Rover Sent Back Some Pictures and They Look a Lot Like the American Southwest

NASA’s Curiosity Rover recently returned some striking color images from Mars of the Murray Buttes, one of the lower regions of Mount Sharp.
The buttes and mesas are the eroded remains of ancient sandstone that have risen above the sandy, Martian surface. Studying the rock formations up close is giving scientists a better understanding of how Mars’ landscape was formed, says Curiosity Project Scientist Ashwin Vasavada, of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Of all the days, today is a good day to stop and take a look at our progress in spreading the ERB passion. I always say I have the best job in the world with an incredible potential and amazing fans. I have worked here for over 30 years, started in 1984 while still in high school. Over the years, I have watched literally hundreds if not thousands of amazing treasures come into the office from all over the world. It has been a great experience and a labor of love. I am truly honored to be able to do this work — and I know I share that feeling with Jim Sullos our President, and the rest of the gang here at ERB Inc.

Tarzana, California. Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc. today announced the release of the long-awaited definitive bibliography of the Master of Adventure by longtime Burroughs scholar Dr. Robert B. Zeuschner. The illustrated hardbound volume ships today in two hardbound editions.

Edgar Rice Burroughs, well known for his tales of Tarzan and John Carter of Mars, has been rightfully dubbed The Master of Adventure, but few are aware of the full scope of Burroughs’ literary output in a writing career that spanned four decades. During his lifetime, Burroughs created worlds that ranged from the Earth’s core to the Farthest Star, inhabited by larger-than-life heroes and heroines, populated by unimaginable creatures and captivating landscapes.

This story is full of fantasy, imaginative fiction and adventure – It grabs your attention from the beginning and keeps it to the very end. Venus might have been habitable, according to NASA simulation

A team of researchers with NASA, Uppsala University, Columbia University and the Planetary Science Institute has created several simulations of conditions on Venus billions of years ago using Earth climate models and has found some instances that suggest the planet may at one time have been capable of harboring life. In their paper uploaded to the preprint server arXiv, the team describes their simulations and the factors they used in creating them.

Margot Robbie looked like she was enjoying the Hawaiian sun with boyfriend Tom Ackerley on Thursday. And in such a romantic destination, there was no shortage of PDA.

The Suicide Squad star and her beau of over a year were spotted swimming and kissing in the water together earlier this week. For her beach outing, Robbie, 26, chose a crochet-trimmed Kiini Luna bikini top and bottoms while Ackerley was dressed in navy and white patterned swim trunks.

The familiar film Tarzan has often been a monosyllabic brute, a far cry from the erudite version Burroughs envisioned in his novels (which informs Skarsgard’s portrayal). Nearly 60 official Tarzan films have been produced, with more than 20 actors taking on the role. Not all the films have been great; some have been notable only for being terrible. And certainly the cinematic Tarzan has a less fantastical tone than many of the novels, which boasted hidden cities, lost Roman legions, and a trips to lands populated by dinosaurs. But in nearly a century of Tarzan films, there’s plenty of good stuff. Here’s my Top 10.

Ed Catto: A Guy and His Lion – Tarzan’s New Logo

Hollywood embraces certain heroic brands time and time again. I think Dumas’ Three Musketeers (spoiler alert: there’s really four of them!) holds the record for movies most frequently adapted from a story. But another property has been capturing fans’ imaginations for over 100 years, and he’ll be swinging into theatres again this summer.
The Legend of Tarzan debuts July 1st. This movie stars Samuel L. Jackson, Margot Robbie and Alexander Skarsgard. Fans are hopeful. Of note, this movie opens with a “civilized” Tarzan in the city London. But the hardcore Tarzan and Edgar Rice Burroughs fans know there’s always something rumbling in the jungle.
