In 1976 our Jungle girl artist, Will Meugniot, was already penciling the adventures of Tarzan and Korak for Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc’s foreign comics publications. Not surprisingly, the stories were often written to showcase Will’s beautiful woman. Two of the most popular were from Korak: Balza, The Golden Girl and the Mermaid of New Lothar.

The upcoming Tarzan movie is well under way, directed by David Yates known for his work on Harry Potter. However, the new film has had a rocky beginning with the production halting last year due to budgetary concerns.
Luckily for the king of the jungle, John Hurt has stepped in to help get the production greenlit again. Hurt, a 72 year old actor who starred in V for Vendetta, Alien and Hellboy, explained it was “wonderful to work with” Yates and that he was happy to help the film move along.
The new Tarzan, produced by Warner Bros, is scheduled for 2016. The cast also includes Samuel L Jackson, Alexander Skarsgard, Margot Robbie and Djimon Hounsou.

(October 15, 2014 – Tarzana, CA) Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. announces that the movie, television and merchandise rights have reverted back to the company. Walt Disney Pictures held the rights and produced the movie JOHN CARTER in 2012. Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. will be seeking a new studio to continue this seminal Sci-Fi adventure.
“John Carter of Mars was the creative stimulus behind such movie classics as Superman, Star Wars and Avatar,” said James Sullos, President. “Edgar Rice Burroughs was the Master of Adventure and his literary works continue to enjoy a world-wide following. We will be seeking a new partner to help develop new adventures on film as chronicled in the eleven Mars novels Burroughs wrote. This adventure never stops. Along with a new TARZAN film in development by Warner Bros., we hope to have JOHN CARTER OF MARS become another major franchise to entertain world-wide audiences of all ages.”
Founded in 1923 by Edgar Rice Burroughs himself, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. holds numerous trademarks and the rights to all literary works of the author still protected by copyright. The company has overseen every adaptation of his literary works in publishing, film, television, theatrical stage productions, licensing and merchandising. The company is still a very active enterprise and manages and licenses the vast archive of Mr. Burroughs’ literary works, fictional characters and corresponding artworks that have grown for over a century. The company continues to be owned by the Burroughs family and remains headquartered in Tarzana, California, the town named after the Tarzana Ranch Mr. Burroughs purchased there in 1918 which led to the town’s future development.

(October, 18 2014 – Tarzana, CA) I promised to take my lord to the jungle,” replied the Cambodian. “There it is. I did not promise to enter it.” And at that moment Gordon King made a fateful decision. “Wait for me here, then,” he said. “I shall be out before dark.” “You will never come out,” said the Cambodian.
Deep in the jungle, King falls, breaks his compass and becomes hopelessly lost. On the eighth morning, as a fever overtakes King, he has hallucinations. Or so he believes when he encounters sad-faced queens on ghostly elephants in the dark shadows of the jungle where the ruins of their ancient cities still stand. Then, someone rescues him. Or so he dreams.
Adventure in a lost city of a secret kingdom awaits King – an American student of medicine, who came to the jungle to study strange maladies and, once there, becomes an explorer who stumbles upon the many thousand year-old secret of THE LAND OF THE HIDDEN MEN.
Asia, this vast continent of ancient civilizations and mysterious peoples, has many corners little known to the rest of the world. To survive in this ancient land, Gordon King must combat the warriors of the lost city of Pnom Dhek and battle the loathsome Leper King of Lodidhapura for the love of the beautiful jungle princess, Fou-tan.
Is the legend true, that while he can escape tigers and wild elephants, no man may look upon the ghost of the dead Khmer ancients and live? The young American soon finds that a courageous man might easily enter the treacherous depths of the jungle, but it is quite another matter as to whether he might ever come out again, alive.
As with all the series featured at edgarriceburroughs.com/comics, the first four episodes of “Jungle Girl” will be available at no charge. Fans can gain unlimited access to the entire site and all the strips from the beginning for only $1.99 per month or $21.99 per year.

Yahoo news just posted this interesting article:
A comet as hefty as a small mountain will pass mind-bogglingly close to Mars on Sunday, approaching within 87,000 miles at a speed of 126,000 mph.
NASA’s five robotic explorers at Mars — three orbiters and two rovers — are being repurposed to witness a comet named Siding Spring make its first known visit to the inner solar system. So are a European and an Indian spacecraft circling the red planet.

Of course, it mentions Edgar Rice Burroughs who has made Mars the new home of John Carter. The other highlights include Ray Bradbury, Doctor Who and Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks.
