The world of Zandar on the Omos planetary system is host to sentient beings known as Ki-vaas. The Ki-vaas begin as eggs, from which their amphibious forms hatch, then mature into two-legged, land-dwelling humanoids. Ki-vaas live in perfect harmony with nature, blindly accepting what fate—and the Three Makers—has decreed, even fearlessly embracing death.
But one among the tribe is different, a young woman named Tii-laa. A pariah because of her rebellious behavior, Tii-laa conceals a dreadful secret that cannot be spoken: an overwhelming urge to ask, “Why?” In her heart, Tii-laa is not content to embrace predestined outcomes and longs to strike out on her own to shape destiny, not only for herself but for her people, who refuse to challenge the way of life the Ki-vaas have led for generations.
Tii-laa’s entire world changed when she met a strange woman named Victory Harben and her animal companion Hucklebuck, both of whom hailed from beyond Zandar. Tii-laa and her new friends tracked down and confronted the brutal Keelars who were responsible for the senseless murders of the Ki-vaas’ Zo-vaa young. But that was to be only the first of their adventures together…
