Martian Life in Last Lake Found by Scientists?

mars

Interesting speculation from Business Insider:

A trio of scientists says they’ve identified the best place to look for evidence of ancient life on Mars — one of the youngest lake-bearing basins ever discovered.

Though Mars has no liquid water today, the Red Planet was submerged under vast oceans billions of years ago. And where there’s water, there’s the potential for life.

Hunting Ban Lifted in Zimbabwe sparks Anger just One Week After Cecil the Lion’s Death

Lions in Africa Need Protection According to US Government

From DailyMail:

Zimbabwe’s ban on hunting lions, leopards and elephants around Hwange National Park – where Cecil the lion lived before he was lured to his death – has been lifted just a week after it was instigated. A statement to members of the Zimbabwe Professional Hunters and Guides Association was leaked this weekend, showing the ban on big-game hunting in areas outside of the park has been abandoned – but is still in place in the farm where Cecil was killed.

Alexander Skarsgard: Why Next Summer’s Tarzan Will Surprise You

Great piece in John Carter files:

Alexander Skarsgard has let go the first volley in terms of serious discussion about what to expect from David Yates’s Tarzan next July. It comes in an interview with Mike Ryan. Now, some of this has to be discounted beause actors always say the character was intriguing, the director was fantastic, and so on. Okay — we get that. But even allowing for that, Skarsgard’s comments are interesting and, to my taste at least, encouraging:

Rhinos Could Go Extinct if Their Genocide in Africa isn’t stopped

rhino poaching

From Yahoo News:

Following the tragic killing of Cecil the lion it is imperative that we use this outrage to turn the spotlight on one of South Africa’s biggest tragedies—rhino genocide. When most travelers head to Africa for a safari vacation they are hoping to spot the “Big Five.” That is shorthand for the big game— lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino. But, if things don’t change and soon, they will only ever get a chance to see the “Big Four.”

Liberia’s ‘Planet of the Apes’ chimps facing starvation

More sad news for our ape folk!

Monkey Island (Liberia) (AFP) – A speedboat laden with fruit approaches and four chimpanzees come bounding over from the dense forest, screeching excitedly as volunteers throw them pineapple and mango chunks.

The apes are part of a colony of former research lab captives enjoying retirement uncaged on an atoll deep in the jungle of southern Liberia, known as Monkey Island.

Killing a Giraffe Could Get You Under Fire!

What a bizarre story, when you think about it:

giraffee
SALMON, Idaho (Reuters) – A big-game trophy collector from Idaho has ignited a firestorm of criticism from animal-rights activists for flaunting online images of herself posed with the carcasses of a giraffe and other wildlife she killed during a recent guided hunt in South Africa.

Sabrina Corgatelli, an accountant for Idaho State University, appeared on NBC’s “Today” show on Monday to defend trophy hunting amid mounting international outrage over last month’s killing of Cecil, Zimbabwe’s most famous lion, by an American dentist.
