Living on Mars

Jordan Minor just wrote a great little article about the current state of colonization of Mars, looking at the potential and hopes for living on the mysterious red giant.

Living on Mars
There’s no better time to think about the future than at the beginning of a new year. But while some only see the future in terms of how many bad habits they can kick and how unfilled dreams they can take another stab at, this also the perfect opportunity to think even bigger than that. How big? How about ‘living on other planets’ big.

Disney’s Darkest Moments

A nice article at MoviePilot looking at some of the darkest moments in Disney’s movies, showing their mutli-faceted nature (they’re not just for kids!)

Disneys Darkest Moments
Disney films are adored the world over. Their joyous combination of love, charm, and happy-ever-endings have induced smiles and laughter from all of us.

Equally, they have never been afraid to depict utterly bleak sadness to throw an even bigger emotional punch. Like in Dumbo, when our cute little elephant touches trunks with his imprisoned mother as she sings him a lullaby; or in Bambi, when his mother’s shot dead by a poacher.

Missing NASA Spacecraft found on Mars after 10 years!

Spaceship Lost on Mars May Be Found

We mentioned a few days ago about the prospect of finding a long-lost Beagel-2 on the surface of Mars and the news is now confirmed!

LONDON — The European Space Agency’s Beagle-2 lander, which had been lost on Mars since 2003, has been found, the agency said Friday.
New photos taken by the high-resolution camera on NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter show the lander partially deployed on the surface of the Red Planet, it said.
Rudolf Schmidt, ESA’s Mars Express project manager at the time, called the finding “excellent news.” He said that not knowing what happened to Beagle-2 had “remained a nagging worry.”

Raised and taught by the French fencing master, Jules de Vac, Norman was trained to be a simple, brutal, English-hating, killing machine. The only influence over him, besides de Vac, is a Priest who taught Norman his letters and chivalry towards women. But, the Priest was found mysteriously murdered in his cottage.

In another guise, that of Roger de Conde, Norman becomes involved with de Montfort’s daughter, Bertrade – defending her against her and her father’s enemies. She notes in him a curious resemblance to the English King’s son and heir, Prince Edward.

When Edgar Rice Burroughs first established himself as a writer with Under the Moons of Mars / A Princess of Mars in early1912, he was asked by his publisher, Thomas Metcalf of All Story Magazine, to write another story and to center it in medieval times. He did so, submitting The Outlaw of Torn. After three rewrites, it was still rejected by Metcalf. But he was told to not give up and to write something else. His next novel was Tarzan of The Apes which established Burroughs’ writing career. The Outlaw of Torn was finally published as a five part serial in New Story Magazine in early 1914, but it wasn’t published in book form until 1927. This is one of only two historical novels Mr. Burroughs wrote, the other being I Am a Barbarian, set in Caligula’s Rome and first published in 1967 – seventeen years after Mr. Burroughs’ death.

Spaceship Lost on Mars May Be Found

Spaceship Lost on Mars May Be Found

CNet reports that a long-lost Mars explorer craft, Beagel 2, may have been finally found after 10 years. NASA is yet to release the full statement but the news is definitely exciting.

On December 19, 2003, a tiny spaceship called the Beagle 2 was released from Mars Express, a craft orbiting Mars. On Christmas day, the lander plunged through the Martian atmosphere traveling more than 20,000 kph, and then it was never heard from again. Now there’s reason to believe that NASA has spotted the diminutive craft that was part of a British-led effort under the European Space Agency’s Mars Express mission.
