For generations, Edgar Rice Burroughs’ tales of Tarzan® and Jane Porter® have thrilled audiences the world over, but now ERB, Inc., is revealing that Jane Porter has been having her share of incredible solo adventures! One such tale is Jane Porter and the City of Fire, a 72-page full-color graphic novel, the first in our new line of Edgar Rice Burroughs Illustrated Epics™.

Picking up where Jane Porter: The Primordial Peril left off and set in the year 1952, Jane is tasked with delivering three revived prehistoric creatures to the savage land of Pellucidar®, the world at the Earth’s core. With the help of the crew of the fantastic vacuum airship Favonia, Jane’s routine mission will take a terrifying turn when the Favonia encounters an incredible phenomenon that leads it not to Pellucidar, but to an alien world far from Earth and into a nightmare scenario that could spell doom for an entire planet!

The sci-fi thrill ride that is Jane Porter and the City of Fire was written by Mike Wolfer (The Monster Men™, The Moon Maid™, The Land That Time Forgot®, and many others) and illustrated by Miriana Puglia (The Moon Maid: The Three Keys, Pellucidar: Across Savage Seas). Interior color is provided by Arthur Hesli (Pellucidar: Across Savage Seas, Beyond the Farthest Star™: Warriors of Zandar), with lettering by Natalie Jane (all of the above projects and more). The cover of this Mass Market Edition was illustrated by Miriana Puglia and colored by Periya Pillai.

This new chapter in the unfolding tale of Jane Porter is official Edgar Rice Burroughs Universe™ canon, and long-time Burroughs fans will delight in the plot threads and connections to other Burroughs works. When the Hollywood film industry was still in its infancy, “The Master of Adventure” was already exploring the shared universe concept, crossing over several of his most popular properties, and you’ll see that concept in play in this all-new tale of danger and intrigue. But you don’t have to be a Burroughs fanatic to love Jane Porter and the City of Fire; everything you’ll need to know is built into the story and this tale is designed for readers who are new to the ever-expanding Edgar Rice Burroughs Universe!

We are waiting for Tarzan books #17–20 in the ERB Authorized Library to arrive from the printer. Based on the printer’s revised estimates, we are now expecting the books to arrive in our warehouse in May, at which time we will prep the preorders and beginning shipping them out to customers. New Online Comic Strip: Jane Porter® Untamed

When we first meet Jane Porter in the novel Tarzan of the Apes, she is an intelligent and beautiful eighteen-year-old woman with little experience in the larger world, dedicated to helping her father in his studies of lost civilizations. But after she meets Tarzan, her life changes forever, as she is thrust into a life of continuous adventure and unremitting peril. Now, in the latest ERB online comic strip, Jane Porter Untamed, she transforms into a full-fledged hero, capable of standing on her own against the most daunting challenges and diving headlong into her own daring exploits!

The Creative Team

Writer

Martin Powell has written hundreds of stories in numerous genres for Disney, Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and Capstone Books, among others. Nominated for the prestigious Eisner Award for his work with Sherlock Holmes, he has written many of the most popular characters in the industry, including Superman, Batman, Popeye the Sailor, Dracula, Frankenstein, and Tarzan of the Apes.

Currently, as the author of over 2,500 ERB online comic strips, and the critically acclaimed Jungle Tales of Tarzan graphic novel from Dark Horse, Powell has written more Edgar Rice Burroughs characters than any other contemporary writer.

He received the coveted Golden Lion Award from the Burroughs Bibliophiles in 2017 for his ongoing contributions to the legacy of Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Artist

David Matsuoka is a freelance artist and illustrator. He has been a fan of comics and movies all his life and has been drawing ever since he first picked up a crayon (or so his mother has said). Born and raised in California, he currently resides in San Jose. He studied graphic design/illustration at San Jose State University and graduated with a BA. After this, he worked for thirty-eight years with one company before retiring as Marketing Manager. He began comic illustrating late in life beginning with Antarctic Press, AC Comics, and Black Swan Press. He currently illustrates Martin Powell’s latest ERB adventure, Jane Porter Untamed.

Colorist and Letterer

Residing in Asunción-Paraguay, Maggie Lopez is a student of graphic design as well as a rising artist in the comics and animation industry.

First launched and funded last year on Kickstarter, Jane Porter: The Primordial Peril features Tarzan’s Jane Porter diving into her own adventure in this historic comic book published the company founded by Edgar Rice Burroughs himself.

It is written by Mike Wolfer, with the story, series concept, and expanded canon by ERB, Inc.’s Director of Publishing Christopher Paul Carey and Wolfer. The brand-new cover art for this mass market edition is by Miriana Puglia and the interior art is by acclaimed illustrator Roy Allan Martinez, with lettering by Natalie Jane. Rounding out the creative team is interior colorist Diego Vazquez and cover colorist Bruna Costa. This is the first-ever comic book story published directly by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., the company founded by Mr. Burroughs in 1923, making it a unique, must-have item for your comic book and Edgar Rice Burroughs collections.
