Now, at last, get Victory’s complete origin story in Victory Harben: Fires of Halos, which is written so that it can be read as either a standalone novel by new readers or the epic conclusion to the four-book Swords of Eternity super-arc!

The daughter of Gretchen von Harben from Tarzan and the Tarzan Twins by Edgar Rice Burroughs and the warrior Nadok of Pellucidar, Victory spent the first twelve years of her life at the Earth’s core under the tutelage of two of the greatest minds of the twentieth century: Jason Gridley and Abner Perry. On the outer crust, she further honed her intellect at Oxford’s prestigious Darkheath College, earning an advanced degree in Theoretical Physics while she took breaks to exercise her muscles and fighting skills at Lord and Lady Greystoke’s Chamston-Hedding estate. Now all of Victory’s abilities and talents will be put to the test as she is hurled upon one of the strangest and most daunting odysseys imaginable!

VICTORY HARBEN: FIRES OF HALOS

New Online Comic Strip: The Resurrection of Jimber Jaw™

Posted on August 18, 2022

ANNOUNCING THE LAUNCH OF AN ALL-NEW WEBCOMIC STRIP—THE FIRST IN 3 YEARS!

The Resurrection of Jimber Jaw is a creation from the incredible mind of Edgar Rice Burroughs as only he could conceive it. Imagine two men flying in a small plane over Siberia deep in Russia, one a pilot and the other a cryogenicist. (Don’t look it up; we’ll tell you: cryogenics is the branch of physics dealing with the production and effects of very low temperatures.) Then engine trouble tragically causes the plane to put down in the middle of that vast expanse. And finally, the current from a furious thunderstorm erodes the banks of a small mountain to reveal a human form encased in the ice, lying there perfectly preserved since the Upper Paleolithic era—50,000 years ago!

Could you imagine that? Edgar Rice Burroughs did, and he had only one solution to the discovery: bring that man back to life! What would it take? Once he was thawed out, maybe a major blood transfusion from the pilot, followed by an adrenalin chloride solution into the belly. That would be enough to cause the specimen to open his mouth and yawn! But more would be needed: doses of both anterior pituitary fluid and posterior pituitary fluid. And then finish it off with an injection of sex hormones from sheep. With all of that, and weeks of rest and assurances, it would bring to life a living, breathing man of the Stone Age.

But there’s so much more to the story, and the best way to see how this man—named Jimber Jaw after a grizzly bear he resembled before shaving and getting an update to his wardrobe—coped with this improbability is to subscribe to our webcomics program at www.erburroughs.com. See how this reborn mammoth of a man went to Hollywood and became Jim Stone, mighty wrestler and boxer, and then fell in love with a movie star that resembled his sweetheart from the Stone Age, only to be pitched headlong into the treacherous perils of modern-day romance.

Written by Bobby Panzarella with assistance from writer and artist Trevor Markwart, The Resurrection of Jimber Jaw is a sensational tale that only Edgar Rice Burroughs, the Master of Adventure, could bring to life!

Subscribe to our Edgar Rice Burroughs Online Comic Strips and read the first episode of The Resurrection of Jimber Jaw today with many more to follow!

THE CREATIVE TEAM

Writer

Robert Panzarella is a lifelong Edgar Rice Burroughs fan. He started reading Tarzan of the Apes in junior high and has been hooked ever since. He is an emergency room physician, having graduated from Texas Tech University School of Medicine in 1980, and has worked in emergency rooms from 1983 to the present. He has been writing novels, screenplays, and other works ever since his college days at the University of Texas at Austin, and has completed two novels, a couple of short stories, and ten screenplays. In 1999, he made the independent film Joey Goes to Jail, for which he wrote the screenplay, as well as acted in it, directed it, and produced it, and he has acted in several films and commercials shot in the Houston area. He has written screenplays for Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., adapting The Resurrection of Jimber Jaw, The Girl from Hollywood, The Monster Men, The Lad and the Lion, The Mucker, The Return of the Mucker, and The Mad King. He has also written the screenplays for a proposed streaming series of The Mad King and is currently working on a proposed streaming series of The Lad and the Lion. He has been wanting to do a comic strip of The Resurrection of Jimber Jaw for a long time now.

Artist and Co-Writer

Trevor Markwart is a Canadian former high school art teacher and occasional screenwriter, whose produced films include They Wait (2008), which starred Jaime King and Michael Biehn, and was based on his original spec. He’s mostly focused on being a comics creator, and the first graphic novel he drew, Tales From the Black Circle, was nominated for a Rondo horror award. His four-issue crowdfunded series H. P. Lovercraft’s Beauty and the Beast, which he wrote and illustrated, was recently published as a mainstream graphic novel. His comic book heroes are Richard Corben and Graham “Ghastly” Ingels, and he occasionally signs his work “Morbid” in tribute to the latter.

Fans of the Lord of the Jungle Can Collect Iconic Comic Book in Time for 50th Anniversary

AUCKLAND, New Zealand, June 1, 2022VeVe, the largest mobile-first digital collectibles platform, has announced a new partnership with Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., the company that manages the worldwide rights to the iconic character Tarzan®, to bring the legendary Tarzan of the Apes™ comic books to the platform.

Tarzan is one of the most recognizable characters in popular culture and a worldwide phenomenon since his creation by Edgar Rice Burroughs, one of the best-selling authors of the twentieth century. Comic books starring the heroic Lord of the Jungle® have been consistently in print for nearly a century, written and illustrated by some of the most renowned and beloved creators past and present. In the initial drop, collectors can purchase one of the most celebrated Tarzan comic books exclusively through the VeVe app (available to download on the App Store and Google Play) on Friday, June 3 at 8 AM PST.

This initial drop of Tarzan collectibles commemorates the classic issue #207 of the long-running Tarzan of the Apes comic book series featuring the story “Origin of the Ape-Man,” written and illustrated by comics legend Joe Kubert. First published 50 years ago, issue #207 was the first time Kubert brought his creative talents to the Lord of the Jungle, depicting him as no one ever had before in his raw, gritty, and action-packed style, defining a new look for the ape-man for an entire generation of fans that still resonates in our imaginations today. I Am A Barbarian, a historical novel set in ancient Rome, was written by “Master of Adventure” Edgar Rice Burroughs in 1941. It tells the story of a young man’s courage in the face of cruel adversity, and of his tragic love for a beautiful Belgian slave girl.

Britannicus, the defiant son of an arrogant chief in far-off Britain, was just another barbarian to the haughty Romans who captured and enslaved him. Britannicus’ mother and father were also captured by the Romans, and he was never able to speak to them again. Britannicus becomes the personal slave of Emperor Caligula amid the decadence of Imperial Rome; he faces death time and again, in the gladiatorial arena, in chariot races, in the twisted hearts of palaces, always at the hands of his insane master: Caligula, the most bloodthirsty Roman of them all.

Britannicus watches as Caligula sinks into depravity, forces rivals to commit suicide, falsely accuses and kills individuals in order to seize their estates during a financial crisis caused by his own profligate gambling and wasteful spending, and orders his guards to throw scores of people into the arena to be eaten by wild animals. Only the imagination of Edgar Rice Burroughs could have reincarnated the chariot races, the intrigues, and the sights and sounds of long-dead Imperial Rome—and now, the able team of writer Tom Simmons, artist Mike Dubisch, and letterer Jamal Walton brings this extraordinary tale, with its vivid story, art, and period authenticity, to life again in a newly printed graphic novel based on their online comic strip.

WRITER/ADAPTER: Thomas Simmons

“In mid-1941, with mounting personal and health issues and the world once again at war, Edgar Rice Burroughs penned I Am a Barbarian, his second and final historical novel. The story is dark and in a number of ways decidedly unlike his prior work, which made adapting it into an action/adventure strip and subsequent printed graphic novel a challenge I was happy to undertake,” says screenwriter and graphic novelist Tom Simmons.

In addition to adapting the I Am a Barbarian and The Outlaw of Torn™ online strips, Simmons has several screenplays and graphic novels to his credit. “It was a pleasure to have collaborated with Lovecraft Award–winning artist Mike Dubisch on this effort, as well as with the talented Jamal Walton. The satisfying culmination to our five-year commitment with the online strip is this excellent graphic novel,” states the writer.

ARTIST/COLORIST: Mike Dubisch

Internationally known fantasy illustrator and graphic novelist Mike Dubisch has his roots in golden age horror comics and pulp science fiction. His art has been used in toy design and illustration for Star Wars, The Wheel of Time, and Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying games, covers for Aliens vs. Predator, and graphic adaptations of The Boxcar Children and other children’s literature. His work has appeared in Science Fiction Age, Realms of Fantasy, Weird Tales, and H. P. Lovecraft’s Magazine of Horror.

“I was huge reader of Burroughs at a young age, drawn to Tarzan’s jungle adventures amongst the apes, a counterpoint to my obsession with King Kong and giant monsters. Later, John Carter’s fantastic adventures enthralled me at the same time as I discovered the great illustrators and comic artists who ended up shaping my artistic vision,” the artist says.

Dubisch is an instructor at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. He also creates fine art, prints, and experimental films exploring H. P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos.

Remembering Willie Jones

Posted on May 11, 2022

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former longtime ERB, Inc., employee Willie Jones on April 27, 2022. Willie was hired as a secretary under Marion Burroughs in 1977. She went on to become an integral part of the ERB, Inc., team, being promoted to Assistant Secretary and working closely with the executive staff on matters related to the company’s intellectual property, until she retired in 2019. She is survived by her son, Robert Jones.

Willie loved dogs and country music. She was known to fans from her attendance at some of the Burroughs Bibliophiles Dum-Dum conventions over the years, and even traveled to New York City to see Disney’s Tarzan on Broadway theatrical premiere.

Willie’s hard work was invaluable in protecting the legacy of Edgar Rice Burroughs for more than four decades. We will all miss her deeply.

Donations may be made in memory of Willie Jones to Parkinson’s Resource Organization, one of her favorite causes.
